I am a central region thai or a siam born (in english siamese). My hometown is Kanchanaburi province (in Siam proper), which is 200 km to west from Krungtep (Bangkok in english). I love Isaan songs. i think they are beautiful. But I do not understand Issan women’s bizarre desire of marrying western men, and this makes all Isaan people look bad in the eyes of the rest of the country. It seems to me that Issan women do not want to work hard to get better life.

Interesting opinion, it seems that Issan women do like western men quite a bit, but in reality, it seems like foreigners in any country have a special difference that the opposite sex is attracted to. I agree with you that there seems to be this attachment with westerners, but that attachment is short live when you start to feel like an ATM machine, not a genuine love interest. Issan women tend to downplay thai men, saying that they drink all day, and do nothing, and give nothing. I of course don’t buy this as people are people, you just can label everyone a deadbeat.
